Insect Lightning Bug-Deck
This product is temporarily unavailable
In 2002, Insect began producing high performance, handcrafted, composite reinforced skateboards.
Founder and builder, Steve Hopper (pictured at left in work uniform), runs the operation from an extremely small, but incredibly sophisticated shop in Seattle.
This unassuming shop now houses a CNC system which will further broaden the horizons of what is possible in high-end skateboard construction. Insect is always working on new ideas to push the envelope and bring you the best performance skateboarding has to offer.
If it’s possible we’ll try it. If it’s viable, we’ll use it. If it survives the torture testing, they’ll make it available.
As the name suggests, the “Lightning Bug” is built for speed. High speed. Full cutouts at the nose and tail handle the largest wheels currently available (97mm Flywheels) with zero wheelbite. The drop-through truck mounts are designed for Randal Downhill trucks, but can easily accept any truck with a Randal II baseplate. The deck is concave, though not your typical concave. It’s flat across the middle seven inches, then rises up to the edges. The concave design provides a stable, comfortable, but absolutely solid “locked-in” feeling. This deck comes in one flex only – STIFF. It features a Baltic Birch core sandwiched between multiple layers of triaxial and unidirectional fiberglass. Stiff as a plank and indestructible.
